Best New Year’s Resolutions for Seniors

The new year is right around the corner – giving us all a chance to think of our priorities & resolutions for the New Year. Do you want to be healthier? Are you hoping to spend more time with family? What are some areas you want to improve above in this next year?

There are so many possibilities for resolutions; here are just a few of our favorites:

  1. Make Healthier Choices

As we grow older, it becomes more and more important to make those healthy decisions. Strive to add more fruits & veggies to your diet. Talk to your doctor about incorporating vitamins into your daily routine. Make the decision to take a 10 minute walk every afternoon. The goal of choosing healthier options isn’t to dramatically change your lifestyle, the goal is to slowly incorporate small changes that will help you in the long run.

  1. Think Positively

We all have good days & bad days; it is just a part of life. The issue arises when bad days last a long period of time & take us away from the things we normally love to do. The goal of thinking positively is to limit our number of bad days. Instead of worrying about the little things, we should try to focus our energy on the positive aspects of our life that we can control. The goal of thinking positively is to wake up each morning being thankful & happy for the day ahead.

  1. Spend Time with Loved Ones

It’s important to spend as much time as we can with the ones we love; friends, family, neighbors. Take the time next year to grow your relationships & make lasting memories with your loved ones. Share family recipes with the grandkids. Pull out the old photo album with your kids. Schedule lunch with your neighbor.

  1. Try Something New

This is the resolution that we all have at the bottom of our lists each year, but it never gets done. It may seem silly to start a new hobby when we are older, but the truth is – you are never too old to learn a new hobby. Pick up the Sunday crossword, Open that book that’s been on your shelf for years or try a new recipe.

  1. Take Care of Yourself

This may be the most important resolution of the New Year. It may seem like a no-brainer but there are times when we forget about ourselves. Take the time & put yourself and your health first.  Schedule your annual doctor appointments. Make adjusts in your home to prevent falls. Ensure you are getting enough sleep.

From everyone at Open Arms Solutions, we wish you a happy & healthy New Year!
